The commitment to sustainable driving was a success, and the company quickly expanded across America and Europe, becoming the leading company in electric vehicles and the sustainable energy sector.
Today, they have gone further, also entering the residential field with photovoltaic panels and energy storage batteries with dimensions adaptable to homes.

Tesla’s Commitment to Self-Sufficient Homes
Among Tesla’s products, what interests us most at Slow Studio are the electrical energy self-sufficiency systems for homes.
Tesla offers both energy capture and storage systems.
Among their products, we can find:

What Are Homes with Tesla Roofs Like?
Homes with Tesla roofs function as self-sufficient homes, combining solar energy capture through the Tesla roof and storing that energy in Powerwall batteries.
This ensures electricity supply to your home both day and night, as during the day, solar panels can produce more energy than your home consumes, and Powerwall batteries store that surplus solar energy and allow it to be used when needed, even after sunset.

Sun Tax on Homes with Tesla Roofs
Finally, we want to discuss the Sun Tax, a restrictive regulation currently under debate that penalizes those homes that opt for self-consumption and the production of clean and free energy.
Since 2015, the so-called “Sun Law” has been in effect in Spain. It establishes that homes with photovoltaic panels connected to the grid must pay a tax based on the kilowatts of energy they generate.
More specifically, the law imposes a payment of 9 euros per year per kW of power generated, plus a variable amount based on the energy fed into or consumed from the electrical grid, to which we must be connected if we do not have an energy storage system using batteries to cover demand during hours when we have no sun, that is, during the night.
Theoretically, it is therefore an isolated fee for using grid energy at times when the panels do not generate sufficient energy to supply the home, and it is considered that in these cases, when using the general electrical grid, we must contribute to its maintenance.
Conversely, if our home generates excess energy, it is contributed to the general grid altruistically, and the producer receives nothing in return.
Currently, this law is under debate in Spain, as sustainable policies are increasingly being promoted to favor homes that wish to generate their own energy. Therefore, homes with Tesla roofs are a good option for the future if this law is eventually repealed.
As we have seen throughout the article, despite representing a significant initial investment, homes with Tesla roofs are an option to consider when designing a new home, residential building, or even in renovation cases.
The building’s aesthetics are not affected, and at the same time, the roof surface is maximized as a capture surface.
