SLOW STUDIO, WINNER OF THE KÖMMERLING CHALLENGE ARCHITECTURE AWARD

 

Slow Studio has been awarded the 1st Kömmerling Challenge Architecture Award in the single-family housing category.

Furthermore, we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the other finalists: second-place MOLArquitectura and third-place Munarq. We also extend our congratulations to the winner and finalists in the collective housing category, with a first prize awarded to Lacol Cooperativa, a second prize to sAtt Arquitectura, and a third prize to Bunyesc Arquitectes. At Slow Studio, we are delighted not only that our work has been recognized, but also that the efforts of so many studios prioritizing sustainability in their daily work have been acknowledged.

The Kömmerling Challenge is an initiative supported by the Green Building Council España (GBCe) and the Superior Council of Architects’ Associations (CSCAE), which seeks to recognize studios that have developed working methods capable of promoting sustainability and innovation in architecture. This award not only values specific projects but, above all, the way of working: good practices, methodological coherence, responsible use of resources, and the commitment to conscious construction.

Our partners Jade Serra and Víctor Vergés accepted the award and delivered the following speech:

We would like to thank Kömmerling for this award
and congratulate the other finalists.
And in particular, we would like to acknowledge the thoughtful design of this award,
because we believe it is exceptional to have an architecture award
that recognizes the spirit of sharing.
Sharing the working methods of those of us who strive for sustainability in architecture.
In our culture, we are accustomed to competing,
and we believe this award perfectly embodies
the direction we must take as a society to achieve a more just and sustainable world.

When you compete, you think about being better than others.
But when you share, you think about others also doing well,
about everyone doing well.
And this is called the common good.

Considering that we are in a moment of climate emergency,
with all planetary boundaries exceeded,
and with 8 billion people living on a planet with limited resources,
the act of sharing becomes even more relevant.
Therefore, sharing and thinking about the common good
is the only way to achieve a truly just, equitable, and sustainable society.
It is the only way to live in harmony on our planet.
