Passive house facade in Serra d'Ordal

Our project House in Sierra de Ordal has been selected among the Innovation Projects with Impact for Sustainability 2023 by GBCe. The Green Building Council Spain is the leading sustainable building organization in our country and belongs to a broad global network, WorldGBC, growing and diverse, with presence in more than 70 countries.

The call classified innovation according to ESG strategies—environmental, social, or governance:
– The environmental area refers to impacts on decarbonization, energy, water, natural resources, etc.
– The social area refers to impacts on societal resilience, health, diversity, equality, poverty, etc.
– The governance area refers to impacts on processes, timelines, collaboration, management, regulation, direction, strategies, etc.

As the evaluation criteria included both quantitative and qualitative impact, we decided to justify our project according to the measurement of its impact carried out by the consultancy Societat Orgànica. The energy demand calculations for the dwelling indicate that the main section of the house maintains a minimum temperature of 17°C during the coldest week of the year, while in the rear section, with less direct sunlight in winter, a minimum annual temperature of between 16 and 17°C is expected.

During a typical winter week, the southern section remains most days within the comfort range of between 21 and 26°C, occasionally dropping below this temperature to 19°C briefly in the early morning hours before sunrise. Meanwhile, the northern section remains somewhat below the comfort temperature, reaching minimum temperatures of 18°C.

Having such reduced heating demand leads us to consider the option of not installing a centralized heating system in the dwelling and opting for localized heating through high-efficiency electric radiators in the bedrooms and rooms in the northern section and side areas (bathrooms and service areas).
