Last Saturday, April 27, the 20th-anniversary celebration of the Col·legi d’Ambientòlegs de Catalunya (COAMB) took place. Slow Studio was invited for the presentation of the 8th Environmental Science Awards and won in the “Business Initiative” category, an award collected by Laia Montserrat on behalf of the firm.

The ceremony was held at the Celler de Vila-seca, a heritage wine production gem that has been converted into an impressive auditorium. The event was attended by Sergi Cantó, the first president of the COAMB; Mons Badia, the current president of the COAMB; David Mascort, Minister of Climate Action, Food, and Rural Agenda of the Generalitat de Catalunya; and Pere Segura, Mayor of Vila-seca.

Furthermore, we enjoyed a round table discussion on challenges of paramount importance for the future of the environment, featuring Mons Badia; Samuel Reyes, Director of the Catalan Water Agency of the Generalitat; Mireia Boya, Director General of Climate Change and Environmental Quality of the Generalitat; and Arnau Queralt, Director of the Advisory Council for Sustainable Development of the Generalitat.

The trophy we received is steeped in a history of commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness. Named Buxus Voronoi, it was designed by Lucio Traficante and created using biodegradable plant-based materials. Its morphological essence is inspired by the natural forms of Voronoi structures, evoking the patterns of a giraffe’s coat or the scales of a reptile. Its organic design reminds us of the beauty and complexity of nature. Functionally, it is a symbol of life and growth. Its hollow interior offers the possibility of planting seeds and watching them bloom—a powerful metaphor for transformation and constant renewal. Thus, with each award presented, the transformative power of our collective actions is celebrated.

At Slow Studio, we have decided to donate the €250 prize money to Open Arms, an organization carrying out an essential struggle committed to the environment, social justice, and world peace—commitments that we, as a firm, consider closely related and inseparable.
