Sustainability Working Group of the Architects Council of Europe

On October 30th, as part of the architecture decarbonization conference, we participated in the Sustainability Working Group of the Architects Council of Europe (ACE).

The session was led by Ruth Schagemann, President of the Architects Council of Europe (ACE), along with Greta Tressera, President of the Architecture and Sustainability (AUS) group and sustainability representative of the Official College of Architects of Catalonia (COAC).

The objective of this event was to share perspectives on the implementation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and the calculation of the carbon footprint in different European countries with the European representatives who are part of the Architects Council of Europe, taking advantage of their presence in Barcelona due to the Decarbonization Conference.

Attendees included Lorenzo de Simone, policy officer for the New European Bauhaus Unit of the European Commission, and Ciarán Cuffe, architect and former Member of the European Parliament, one of the main drivers of the EPBD, as well as representatives from various architects’ associations across Europe. The event allowed for a valuable exchange of opinions and experiences, facilitating a comparative view on how the transposition of the EPBD and carbon accounting are being addressed in different European countries.

Representing the Architecture and Sustainability (AUS) association were Jade Serra, partner at Slow Studio; Luca Volpi and Laura Reus, from Societat Orgànica; and Sonia Hernández, from Arquitectura Sana.
