Living in a bioclimatic community

60 homes in Mataró

THIRD PRIZE IN THE INCASÒL COMPETITION FOR 60 SUSTAINABLE AND EFFICIENT HOMES IN THE RONDA BARCELÓ AREA OF MATARÓ.

The proposal is located in the southern part of the coastal city of Mataró, east of Barcelona, within a commercial ring road that urban planning intends to transform into one of the city’s main axes with a connection to the sea.

The plots where the project is located sit on both sides of the axis and include the provision for two public squares within them. These are fully permeable to the rest of the urban fabric and are where public facilities are situated.

GENERAL BUILDING LAYOUT AND TYPOLOGIES

We are working across four sites with very similar functional programs, but with diverse plot assemblies in terms of floor area, alignments, and available dimensions, as well as distinct orientations and relationships with the surroundings.

A base configuration for the dwellings is proposed, allowing for adaptation to the constraints of each plot while maximizing the possibilities offered by each one.

Two distinct building typologies are established:

– A first typology featuring a central communal area with apartments distributed across the various facades.

– A second typology featuring dual-aspect apartments with the main living areas oriented to the southeast and access points on the northwest side.

BIOCLIMATIC STRATEGY

The project makes a clear commitment to passive systems that minimize energy demand. This demand will be met through renewable energy with the aim of achieving net-zero consumption, optimizing thermal and lighting performance.
