Screening of Les Matérialistes at Arquitectura en Corto

 

Last March 25, the Arquitectura en Corto series held in Barcelona the screening of the short film Les Matérialistes at Interni Onesti.

Directed by Jonathan Lapalme and Meggan Collins, the Canadian documentary presents a docu-fiction that imagines the year 2050 through a reflection on which materials will be used in the future of architecture. The project is built on consultations with around thirty architects, whose responses shape a forward-looking scenario linked to the circular economy and carbon neutrality.

After the screening, a debate took place moderated by Andrea Sassi, founder of the series, with the participation of Pol Miret Forns ( Recursos Urbans), Felipe Pich-Aguilera (PichArchitects) and Jade Serra (Slow Studio).

Each speaker addressed the future of materials from a specific perspective. Pol Miret focused his contribution on the recovery and reuse of existing materials, highlighting deconstruction as a tool to close material loops. Felipe Pich-Aguilera addressed the decarbonisation of industrialised materials, emphasising the need to improve their processes and reduce their impact throughout the life cycle. For her part, Jade Serra presented Slow Studio’s work in the use of natural and decarbonised materials, aimed at zero-impact architecture.

During the session, the need to transform the current construction model was highlighted, anticipating regulatory changes and fostering coordinated action among the different stakeholders in the sector.

The event was held in collaboration with AUS Arquitectura y Sostenibilidad and the Green Building Council España.
