Pioneer of bioconstruction in Spain

 

In 2015, with a 4-month-old baby and tremendous enthusiasm to direct our careers toward sustainability, we embarked on the #bioconstruction master’s program, an intensive two-year learning experience that would change our understanding of architecture forever.

The master’s program was promoted by the Spanish branch of the German Baubiologie Institute through an exceptional architect, Petra Jebens.

That winter, during the annual gathering, Petra opened the doors of her home to us—a self-sufficient stone and wood construction with a dry toilet and wood-burning stove in the heart of the Aragonese Pyrenees—where we understood that one could live exceptionally well with zero impact on the planet.

All of us who have had the pleasure of attending her talks and classes, of sharing meals and alumni gatherings, know that she was a person with exceptional strength who conveyed immense peace and kindness, but who also had tremendous determination to defend the ideals of #bioconstruction and fight for architecture that is radically healthy for people and for the planet.

 

 

They say that what we do for others and for the world endures beyond us.

Without doubt, Petra’s legacy will endure and remain alive through all of us who have been fortunate enough to learn alongside her and her exceptional team.
