Slow Studio has signed the European Climate Pact, a movement of people united by a common cause, where each individual takes action within their own sector to build a more sustainable Europe for everyone. The Pact, launched by the European Commission, is part of the European Green Deal and is helping the EU meet its goal of becoming the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. <\/p>\n

Committing through the Climate Pact demonstrates our organization’s commitment to the planet to mitigate climate change and aims to inspire others to take climate action, calling on policymakers to implement ambitious measures and practical support mechanisms to accelerate systemic changes. Furthermore, it allows us to connect with others, networking with like-minded associations. <\/p>\n

Jade Serra, representing Slow Studio, is also a Climate Pact Ambassador<\/a> in Spain as an expert in the field of zero-impact architecture.<\/p>\n

Below, you can see Slow Studio’s detailed commitment<\/a>:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“We want to establish two types of commitments: at the internal activity level, meaning the daily operation of the studio’s logistics, and at the organization-wide activity level, the development of zero-impact projects.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Internal activity:<\/h3>\n

Flexible hours for work-life balance and facilitating employee commutes to the office by bicycle.<\/p>\n

Staff training, such as monthly meetings to share knowledge and foster constant learning by sharing an archive of research materials relevant to the studio.<\/p>\n

Gender equality measures such as maintaining a balanced team or one with a female majority, as is currently the case, and providing flexibility for workers to be absent on key days of struggle for equality such as November 25th or March 8th.<\/p>\n

Collaboration with activist projects such as the AUS group (Architecture and Sustainability), with which the studio is closely linked through the material decarbonization group, understanding active struggle as an essential part of the company’s activity.<\/p>\n

Dissemination through our Research<\/a> team, which develops research articles for internal learning and to spread ideas related to the fight against climate change, as well as through various presentations at national and international conferences (COAC Decarbonization Days, Architect at Work Congress, Architecture and Health Congress, Biocultura Fair, Firhabitat…) in which we are participating and aim to increase our presence and attend future editions to spread the ideas of zero-impact architecture.<\/p>\n

Ordering local and vegetarian catering for company meetings or celebrations.<\/p>\n

Organization-level activity:<\/h3>\n

To avoid using materials derived from fossil fuels whenever there is an alternative consisting of biomaterials, such as wood, earth, and plant fiber insulation.<\/p>\n

To avoid using petroleum-derived insulation, opting instead for the local biomaterials available to us.<\/p>\n

To prioritize the use of materials with a reduced ecological footprint that are healthy, abundant, local, and recyclable or reusable at the end of their useful life.<\/p>\n

To prioritize demountable construction systems that allow for the reuse of building materials at the end of the building’s useful life, following the principles of the circular economy.<\/p>\n

To execute zero-consumption projects and focus on reducing the impact of buildings, taking into account factors beyond energy, such as water resources or the ecosystem of the built environment.<\/p>\n

To always implement the principles of bioclimatic architecture in order to avoid active climate control and air renewal systems: solar gain and protection, cross ventilation, thermal inertia, airtightness and controlled air renewal, thermal insulation, greenhouse effect, use of natural terrain, bioclimatic green roofs, and the use of vegetation in bioclimatic architecture.<\/p>\n
